A Study on Improving Evacuation Safety for Vulnerable Groups in Complex Buildings with Underground Connections - A Simulation-based Analysis

The increase in urban population and the expansion of complex buildings with underground connections have heightened the risk of large-scale fires. This study proposes evacuation strategies to ensure the safety of vulnerable groups in the event of a fire in these complex buildings with underground connections. First, an analysis of the current status of the target buildings in Korea and related laws and regulations identified the need to enhance the safety of vulnerable groups. Subsequently, fire and evacuation simulations were conducted to analyze the impact of evacuation facility improvements on evacuation outcomes for these groups. Finally, the study proposes practical measures to strengthen evacuation protocols by incorporating enhanced evacuation standards and digital technologies. This research offers policy and technical alternatives to improve fire safety in complex buildings with underground connections and strengthen the evacuation capabilities of vulnerable groups, contributing to the establishment of a comprehensive urban safety management system.
