Comparative analysis of online antisemitism after October 7 on mainstream social media networks and “dark platforms”

Since October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza, antisemitism world-wide has spiked dramatically. Antisemitism has stemmed from the political left and right, online and in the off-line world. In this paper, using data captured by the Online Hate Prevention Institute and Online Hate Task Force, I analyze antisemitism online after October 7 on four social media platforms: Facebook, X, Gab, and Telegram. The paper compares antisemitic content found on two mainstream platforms with content found on two “dark platforms” both in volume and nature. Analysis of the data shows that there are alarming similarities between all platforms which raises the question whether enough is being done to moderate online hate.
