Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Mill.), a succulent plant species of the genus Aloe, has been used for traditional medicinal purposes for thousands of years. This plant is known for its triangular, fleshy leaves that have serrated edges. Traditional Indian medicine has long employed the xerophytic plant Aloe vera (Family: Liliaceae) to treat various ailments. In recent decades, research has increasingly focused on its potential anticancer properties. This review comprehensively examines the current state of knowledge regarding role of this xerophytic plant in various cancer treatments. We explore its bioactive compounds, mechanisms of action, and efficacy across different cancer types. Additionally, we discuss its potential as an adjuvant therapy, its effects on chemotherapy-induced side effects, and its safety profile. While promising results have been observed in preclinical studies and some clinical trials, further research is needed to fully elucidate the therapeutic potential of Aloe vera in cancer research. This review aims to provide a foundation for future investigations and potential clinical applications of Aloe vera in oncology.
