CATEGORY OF POLITE SPEECH IN THE LINGUISTIC CULTURES OF JAPAN AND IRAN
Polite speech is an important aspect of successful communication; each culture creates its own principles of polite speech, but general points can be traced. This article attempts to establish a measure of similarity and difference between the concepts of polite speech in Iran - “taarof” and in Japan - “keigo”. Partially for this, the Brown-Levinson theory was applied, however, since the emphasis is shifted from the general theory of politeness, to specifically polite speech, a study was carried out of the main features of the linguistic expression of politeness in these cultures. Despite the fact that the importance for each culture of the use of polite speech by its speakers is reflected as the uniqueness of politeness systems, a high degree of similarity between them has been observed.
