Chromatic triangulation in artistic language: a semiotic and didactic approach
This article analyzes the linguistic sign from the perspective of an extensional class for its designatum, focusing on names. Several proper names associated with colors from different languages are selected and analyzed from both a denotative and connotative perspective. Furthermore, characters from various literary works that include a chromatic term in their names are investigated. Using the Semiotics of Chromatic Components Triangulation (STCC) method, each character’s name is analyzed based on the network of relationships established between the three components of the chromatic triangle: color, the character’s name, and the character itself. The analysis explores how color influences the character, their traits, and their fate in the work, highlighting the semiotic valences and establishing the harmony or discord resulting from chromatic triangulation. Additionally, the article proposes the STCC didactic method, useful in the formation of semiotic competence, providing a framework for interpreting character names from a semiotic perspective with the aim of fostering critical thinking and literary interpretation skills.
