A Case Study on Prompt Components for Image-Generative AI in Product Design : focusing on Midjourney and Chair

Image-Generative AI is recognized as a useful tool for product design that provides creative inspiration based on various ideas and improves the design process by shortening the working time through rapid visualization. In order to generate the desired image through Image- Generative AI, the importance of prompts is emphasized, and it is necessary to clearly grasp the elements constituting them. However, in the current prior research on product design, the prompt components are limited to some ranges, so it is difficult to comprehensively grasp various factors that can be considered in the product design process. Therefore, this study analyzed images and prompts centering on chairs among Image-Generative AI-based product design cases for the purpose of expanding and systematizing prompt components. Through the study, seven additional elements that were not previously covered, such as functions, objects, and characteristics, were identified, and a prompt component system for product design image generation was presented by integrating them with existing prompt components.
