Evaluation of Pig Farmer’s Constraints in Different Agro-climatic Zones of Kerala
The study assessed constraints faced by pig farmers in Kerala across various zones, including North, South, Central, High Altitude, and Special Zone of Problematic Areas (SZPA). Data collected through observations, discussions, interviews, and structured questionnaires revealed key constraints. The technical issues like outdated farming techniques and disease management, policy challenges including inadequate government support, economic constraints such as high feed costs, social factors like cultural attitudes and labour availability, and marketing issues related to limited channels and fluctuating prices. Notably, 94.45% of farmers reported a lack of marketing channels and good quality breeding stock, with swill feed unavailability particularly impacting the SZPA Zone.
