The use of single-dose CO2 laser for vaginal laxity and sexual function improvement

Introduction: To analyze the use of single-dose CO2 laser for improving vaginal laxity and sexual function in women. Methods: This study was conducted at Dr. Moewardi Regional General Hospital, Surakarta, in the Urogynecology Outpatient Clinic from November to December 2023. Using an analytical cross-sectional observational method, the study evaluated the effects of single-dose CO2 laser using the IDS Kaiser Fractional CO2 Laser + ALVR (Automatic Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation) brand on vaginal laxity and sexual function based on VLQ and FSFI scoring, as well as the frequency of sexual intercourse before and after treatment. The population involved patients with symptoms of vaginal laxity. Subjects were selected through consecutive sampling based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria, with a sample size of 17. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software. Results: Normality test results showed an abnormal distribution for VLQ scoring, so the data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. In contrast, FSFI scoring results were analyzed using the T-test. There was a significant difference between pretest and posttest VLQ scores (p=0.002), pretest and posttest FSFI scores (p=0.000), and pretest and posttest frequency of sexual intercourse (p=0.000). Conclusion: Single-dose CO2 laser treatment is significant for improving vaginal laxity and sexual function in women in the short term. Long-term evaluation and further research are needed.
