Efficacy of tenofovir treatment in chronic hepatitis B
Introduction: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains a global health concern, with a significant number of morbidity and mortality. Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) has emerged as a first-line treatment for chronic HBV infection, however, its safety and efficacy in Indonesian populations remains understudied. In this study, we aim to evaluate the safety and efficacy of TDF as a chronic HBV infection treatment. Methods: This cross-sectional study evaluated the association between the period of TDF treatment duration and the corresponding treatment response in chronic HBV patients. Data were collected through medical records sources of subjects receiving TDF treatment for at least 6 months. Efficacy was assessed based on HBV DNA viral load levels and Loss of HbeAg. Result: A total of 60 subjects were included in this study with a mean age of 46 years, and a predominantly male population. Period of TDF treatment duration showed a significant association with HBV DNA levels, with longer treatment associated with a better treatment response. Loss of HbeAg was observed in 44.1% of study subjects, in which longer treatment durations correlated with higher rates of loss of HbeAg. Conclusion: TDF treatment demonstrated a significant efficacy in reducing HBV DNA levels and inducing Loss of HbeAg in chronic HBV patients.
