Study of spatio-temporal evolution of land use using remote sensing tools; case study the City of Ali Mendjeli Constantine (Algeria)

Change detection is an image processing used to quantify spatial and temporal change based on comparison of land use maps produced from satellite images of the same area of interest for different dates. The aim of our work is to show the importance of remote sensing tools for the long-term monitoring of urban changes and to identify and quantify the spatial and temporal evolution of land use in the Ali Mendjeli New City during 37 years. By applying a change detection technique based on the supervised Maximum Likelihood classification using Landsat images for the years 1985, 2006, 2015 and 2022, the obtained results showed that there is a significant urban fragmentation at the expense of other soil units, especially the bare soil with an important change rate between 1985 and 2006.
