HFSWR Input Data Visualization and Multi-Target Simulation

Signal processing in High Frequency Surface Wave Radars is a complex task whether it is primary signal processing or tracking. As a final result, the radar output data (detection and track files) are generated. These data can be used to evaluate radar performance, by comparison with Automatic Identification System data. In this paper, we present a user - friendly simulator used to visualize output radar data, as well as a multi-target simulator that enables users to create random ship trajectories by setting all relevant parameters. The paper contains the detailed simulator description, two proposed multi-target simulation models, and simulation results that were inserted into experimentally obtained radar data. The results show that it is possible to generate any trajectory in fully controllable scenario. There is a significant level of demand for such a simulator, as it offers possibility of testing scenarios that may be challenging to encounter in real-world and therefore help with the design of various applications in this demanding field.
