A case study of smartphone-grade GNSS positioning performance analysis during a massive geomagnetic storm
The presented research addresses the problem of the GNSS positioning performance during severely disturbed geomagnetic and ionospheric conditions on single-frequency multi-GNSS receivers commonly found in smartphones. The GPS system provides a robust positioning performance, while Galileo and GLONASS, in particular, perform less efficiently in northern Croatia during a massive ionospheric storm outbreak in May 2024. As the result, the utilisation of the multi-GNSS approach in serving the Location-Based Services (LBS) applications is recommended.
