Time-Domain Analysis of a PWM DAC with a First-Order Passive RC Filter

This paper presents an exact analysis of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) utilizing a first-order RC filter. Through exact theoretical analysis in time domain, the study evaluates how the selected filter components impact mean value and ripple of the output voltage and settling time of the converter, which are the crucial factors for the estimation of accuracy and speed of conversion.

Abstract

This paper presents an exact analysis of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) utilizing a first-order RC filter. Through exact theoretical analysis in time domain, the study evaluates how the selected filter components impact mean value and ripple of the output voltage and settling time of the converter, which are the crucial factors for the estimation of accuracy and speed of conversion.
