Square Patch Antenna with Ferrite Wall
Microstrip (patch) antennas exhibit significant parasitic radiation in horizontal directions, which deteriorates antenna performance. Reduction of this parasitic radiation has been an important, but challenging task. In [1], this radiation for a circular patch is suppressed by a ferrite ring (a wall), which encircles the antenna. Our goals are to use numerical modeling to (a) investigate if a similar wall can be designed for a square patch antenna and (b) identify physical mechanisms that are behind this technique. The main results are new local optima with narrower walls than in [1].
