Optimization for a photovoltaic pumping system using nonlinear Backstepping control of induction motor
This paper presents a nonlinear control strategy for the vector control of induction motors using a robust backstepping controller. To reduce the complex mathematical representation of the induction machine, a multi-scalar model has been employed. The motor, coupled with a centrifugal pump as the mechanical load, is powered by a photovoltaic generator supplemented with a lead-acid battery storage system. The study achieves two primary objectives: ensuring uninterrupted electrical energy production and optimizing the operation of photovoltaic panels at their maximum power point. Excess energy is stored in the battery bank for later use when solar power is insufficient. To maximize photovoltaic energy utilization, a variable step-size Incremental Conductance algorithm for maximum power point tracking has been implemented. The proposed power management system is designed to reliably supply the required power under various environment conditions. System performance is evaluated through MATLAB/Simulink simulations, demonstrating significant improvements, and validating the effectiveness of the approach.
