The Effect of Digital Financial Education Programs in the Workplace on Financial Capability of Employees with Developmental Disabilities

The purpose of this study is to develop and implement a digital financial program for young employees with developmental disabilities and examine its effects on financial literacy, digital financial literacy and ability to use digital financial services. The study’s participants were 27 young adults with developmental disabilities aged 18~35 who participated in the club activity as employees of a subsidiary of an A school corporation in Seoul. In this study, a one group pretest-posttest design was applied, and pretest and posttest were conducted using the translation of the 2022 version of the OECD/INFE Questionnaire and scenario-based evaluation. The digital financial program lasted a total of six sessions and consisted of five topics related to real digital financial life(reasonable financial life, changes in the financial environment and financial consumer protection, budget, expenditure, and savings) selected based on the 2020 National Financial Education Framework. In order to determine the effect of the intervention, paired samples -test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test were conducted to see if there was a statistical difference in the degree of change in the pre- and post-scores of the three dependent variables. As a result, scores all improved statistically in the posttest compared to the pretest. This study is significant in that it provides digital finance experience activities for employees with developmental disabilities entering adulthood, and based on this, mediates on how to make financial decisions rationally and how to properly utilize financial services in real digital financial life.
