SANSKRIT TEACHING METHODS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS OF ASSAM: A STUDY WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO NALBARI DISTRICT
Sanskrit holds a crucial place in Indian culture and education due to its rich history and signicant inuence on various aspects of life. To preserve and promote Sanskrit, it is essential to modernize teaching methods and integrate the language with other disciplines. While having noble educational goals, well-designed curricula, and robust infrastructure is important, the effectiveness of Sanskrit education ultimately depends on the teachers and their teaching methods. Sanskrit teaching is often criticized for being content-heavy and overly focused on the grammartranslation method, which leads to a decline in student interest at the school level. This study aims to explore the teaching methods and audio-visual aids used by Sanskrit teachers in secondary schools in Assam, specically in the Nalbari district. The sample for the study consists of 100 school heads and 100 Sanskrit teachers. The ndings could help develop a roadmap for more effective Sanskrit teaching.
