Proposal for Evaluation of Undergraduate and Graduate Level Efficiency in Faculties of a Peruvian Public University using Data Envelopment Analysis

Today's society demands competent professionals with university degrees and titles. The growth in the offer of new university programs at undergraduate and graduate levels adapted to the changing demands of the market and technological advances, compels faculties and specialties to be more competitive. To achieve this, it is crucial to optimize their resources. This study addresses the need to evaluate the efficiency of faculties within a public university in Peru, at both undergraduate and graduate levels, in a context where universities are required to adapt to labor market demands and technological advancements. Our work presents a methodological tool based on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to assess the efficiency of faculties, considering key variables such as the number of students, professors, and income, among others. This methodology allows faculties to measure their performance in comparison with the best of their kind, within a benchmarking approach, and covers everything from the selection of variables, data collection and estimation, to pre-grouping, application of DEA, and analysis of results. By identifying the relative efficiency of each faculty, this tool facilitates the formulation of policies and strategies that optimize resources and improve competitiveness, thus adapting to the demands of the labor market and technological advances at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The study aims to provide results that not only offer an evaluation of teachers' efficiency but also provide practical recommendations to improve performance, considering the importance of intangible factors such as the quality of teaching.
