Characterization of Microwave Magneto-Dielectric Antenna Incorporating Yttrium Iron Garnet

This paper addresses the characterization of magneto-dielectric (MD) antenna by incorporating ferrite material, namely Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG), which operates at microwave frequencies. The YIG is intended to be incorporated within the dielectric material to construct an MD-antenna. The antenna configuration takes a square-shaped patch arranged directly upon the ferrite material, with an FR-4 Epoxy substrate applied as the host dielectric material. This study examines the effect of a bulk circular-shaped YIG inclusion inside the antenna without applying an external magnetic bias. The characterization results show the higher-order resonance mode at the frequency of 4.45 GHz, while the conventional patch antenna resonates at the fundamental mode of at the frequency of 3.78 GHz.
