UAV Tracking using 5G
This paper presents an approach for vehicle tracking in Urban Air Mobility (UAM) using 5G Position Reference Signals (PRS). UAM represents the future of urban transportation, where aerial vehicles will be used to ferry passengers and cargo within cityscapes. The reliability of such systems heavily depends on the precision of tracking these vehicles in real-time, especially in densely populated urban areas where traditional GPS might falter. Our proposed method leverages the unprecedented capabilities of 5G networks—particularly the PRS feature—to provide highly accurate and low-latency tracking of UAM vehicles. Our approach enhances efficiency by reducing latency and computational overhead, achieving a sub-meter positional accuracy through 5G PRS. Simulations show that our system improves tracking precision by over 30% compared to conventional GPS-based methods, ensuring robust real-time tracking in dense urban environments.
