Polarization Agile Frequency Selective Surface(FSS) for C, X and Ku Bands

To realize the concept of Co-Cross (LP-LP) and Cross-Circular (LP-CP) polarization of the reflected wave, a frequency selective surface (FSS) that is agile with respect to polarization across multiple bands (C, X, and Ku) is introduced. A <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">${29\times 36}$</tex> FSS array acts as a polarization agile metasurface (MSF). It consists of a periodic single-layered split circular ring with rectangular slot and a diagonally rectangular strip that surrounds the half solid circular strips which behaves like a capacitor. The bottom layer of the proposed metasurface consists of a full copper ground structure that makes it a perfect reflector. The proposed FSS is able to add the Co-polarization to Cross-Polarization (LP-LP) and Cross-Polarization to Circular Polarization (LP-CP) capability. There is three Co-Pol to Cross-Pol bands are achieved from 7.3-7.7 GHz, 9.0-9.3 GHz, and 15.3-17 GHz. Similarly, for LP-CP, a mature band of 9.8-13 GHz having a fractional bandwidth of 28% is achieved. Furthermore, multiple useful operating bands and miniaturized single layer profile makes the proposed metasurface a potential candidate for polarization conversion useful applications.
