Considerations on the Flow Characteristics Testing of Pneumatic Solenoid Valves
Purpose: This study examines the flow characteristics of pneumatic solenoid valves through experimental and simulation methods, adhering to the widely used KS and RS standards.BR/Methods: Tests were conducted to analyze the influence of initial pressure and vessel volume on flow characteristics following KS and RS standards. Two vessel sizes of 8L and 37.5L were tested to assess the impact of container volumes. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were performed to validate the experimental results.BR/Results: CFD simulations and experimental results revealed a close correlation, with deviations of less than 0.5%, when the valve’s flow characteristics matched the vessel volume. However, using vessels with volumes smaller than the valve’s flow characteristics resulted in discrepancies exceeding 40%, highlighting the critical role of container size in test accuracy.BR/Conclusion: For accurate flow characteristic testing of pneumatic solenoid valves in industries, aligned with KS and RS standards, vessel sizes must ensure an air discharge time exceeding five seconds. This approach provides consumers with more accurate performance information, which is crucial for industrial applications.
