Analysis of the Statistical Relationships Between Streamflow-Temperature and Streamflow-Precipitation Based on Daily Data in the Meriç River Basin
In this study, the statistical relationships between the daily streamflow data from the Kirişhane observation station, located on the Meriç River, and the daily average temperature and total daily precipitation data from the Edirne Meteorology station for the period 1988-2022 were examined. Initially, correlation coefficients were calculated between the daily average temperatures, daily total precipitation, and daily average streamflow values. The significance levels of the correlation coefficients were evaluated bidirectionally within a 95% confidence interval. Based on the correlation analysis, the direction and strength of the relationship between daily average temperatures, daily total precipitation, and daily streamflow were determined. To assess the predictive capability of temperature and precipitation on streamflow changes, simple linear regression analysis was performed for the years with the strongest relationships. The results revealed that the connection between daily average temperatures and streamflow was stronger than the relationship between daily total precipitation and streamflow. The highest correlation for temperature-streamflow occurred in March, while the weakest was in July. Correlation coefficients were negative for all months. On the other hand, precipitation-streamflow relationships consistently showed positive values across all months, based on the long-term average of the Meriç River. December exhibited the strongest correlation between precipitation and streamflow, while May had the weakest.
