Research on Collision Detection and Path Optimization of Bench Dragon Motion
This research presented a computational model for analyzing the traditional Chinese folk activity known as "Bench Dragon" or "Panlong," which involves the assembly of hundreds of benches into a dragon for festive performances. Simulation, vector cross product, and binary search were used. Simulation was used to determine the precise positions of each segment of the dragon in the Cartesian coordinate system. The vector cross product was used to detect whether there would be collisions between the benches, and binary search was employed to determine the minimum pitch at which the Bench Dragon had to turn around. The results indicated that the minimum pitch at which the Bench Dragon had to turn around was 0.452m, and the proposed model could enhance the safety and efficiency of this traditional performance.
