Advanced Spatial Awareness and Real-time Distance Measurement in Mixed Reality
This study explores the implementation of real-time distance measurement using the spatial awareness capabilities of Hololens2. We propose and develop an enhanced edge detection technique specifically designed to accurately locate corner points in real-world environments. This improved edge detection algorithm addresses and overcomes the limitations of traditional methods, especially in complex and cluttered scenes, by increasing both the precision and efficiency of edge detection. By leveraging the advanced sensors and spatial computing power of Hololens2, our method provides reliable and accurate detection of edges and corners, which are critical for precise distance measurements. The results of our experiments demonstrate that the proposed technique performs robustly across a variety of real-world scenarios, consistently delivering accurate corner point detection and subsequent distance measurement. This research contributes a novel approach to enhancing spatial perception and measurement in mixed reality environments, with potential applications in fields such as architectural surveying, indoor navigation, and robotics. Our findings highlight the effectiveness of integrating advanced edge detection algorithms with mixed reality platforms, paving the way for future innovations and practical implementations in real-time spatial measurement tasks.
