A New Fault Location Technique for Coaxial Cable Using Impedance Spectroscopies
This paper presents a novel fault location technique based on impedance spectroscopies. Assisted by COMSOL Multiphysics, cables with and without insulation degradation are modeled efficiently and their broadband impedance spectroscopies and propagation constant that vary with the sweeping frequency are computed. Then by applying a suitable integral transform to the input impedance spectroscopies, the faults in a degraded cable can be detected and located precisely. Simulation results show that failure sections can be located with high accuracy even if the cable length is as long as 500m, illustrating that this method can be applied in modeling failure cable for fault diagnosis and analysis.
