Full-Duplex Integrated Sensing and Communication System Based on Microwave Photonics

A full-duplex integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system based on microwave photonics technology is proposed, including a Central Office (CO), Remote Antenna Unit (RAU), and Mobile Station (MS). The system employs phase modulation for downlink transmission and intensity modulation for uplink transmission to enable the reuse of optical carrier over a single fiber for bidirectional transmission, thereby reducing system complexity and cost significantly. Simultaneous sensing and full-duplex communication in E band is realized by using frequency division multiplexing (FDM). Both simulation and experimental verification were conducted to validate the proposed approach.
