This case study investigates how Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a therapeutic approach, is used to tackle instability in emotions and unhealthy coping mechanisms in people with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). DBT was implemented to provide psychological support a 24-year-old woman struggling with self-harm tendencies for a duration of 16 weeks. Through the application of mindfulness practices and techniques for managing emotions and coping with distress provided during DBT therapy sessions the client displayed a reduction in her symptoms and retrieved back from severe to mild symptoms. The results of the assessments using tools such as Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI II) and Self Harm Inventory (SHI) indicated improvements. The BDI II ratings decreased from severe score (37) to moderate score (18). The SHI scores dropped from high frequency (24) to low frequency (9). Additionally qualitative analysis revealed an increase in emotional regulation abilities and a decrease in urges for self-harm along with improvements in interactions. This case study illustrates that Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is effective intervention, for managing self-harm behaviors and depression symptoms by utilizing adaptive coping strategies and emotional control techniques. The findings indicated that this approach focuses on developing skills is beneficial for individuals dealing with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and tendencies towards self-harm. Future considerations involve follow-up sessions for sustained progress.
