Evaluation of the Minia Formation Limestone for Different Construction Applications: A Case Study from Northern Asyut, Egypt
This study investigates the suitability of Minia Formation limestone for various construction purposes. The focus is on assessing its physical, mechanical, petrographic, and chemical characteristics. The results suggest that limestone can be used as a durable building stone, particularly on the western side of quarries. Additionally, specific quarries on the western side are identified as suitable for asphalt and concrete production due to their favorable aggregate parameters. Petrographic analysis reveals limited weathering and chemical analysis indicates a negligible amount of clay or iron mineral, making the limestone suitable for construction without concerns of alkali-silica reaction. Understanding the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of Minia Formation limestone is crucial for determining its suitability as a construction material and ensuring the durability and performance of structures in various applications, from buildings to roads.
