Promoting wellbeing and psychological safety: Implementation and evaluation of reflective practice groups
Within healthcare settings, staff are at increased risk of exposure to various forms of psychological distress. This article describes the implementation and evaluation of reflective practice (RP) groups facilitated within a regional wellbeing strategy across the Lancashire substance use services (SUS) of a national health and social care charity. The evaluation explores attendee feedback and facilitators’ experiences of delivering RP. Additionally, facilitators’ views of attending a monthly supervision and development group were sought. All data was analysed using inductive content analysis (Erlingsson & Brysiewicz, 2017) and two main themes were identified: ‘Fostering an Environment to Grow’ and ‘Reflective Practice as a Valued Aspect of Work’. Findings from this evaluation highlight the importance of RP in SUS, concluding with discussion of limitations, and recommendations for implementation and expansion of RP provision.
