Dietary Macronutrient Composition and Risk of Radiation-Induced Acute Skin Toxicity in Women with Breast Cancer: Results from the ATHENA Project

Dietary carbohydrates were associated with a higher risk of radiation-induced AST among women with BC, whereas dietary protein, especially animal protein, was associated with a lower risk. Cautiously balancing carbohydrate and protein intakes could be a part of the clinical management strategy for ≥G2 AST reduction post-radiotherapy among BC women.

Abstract

Dietary carbohydrates were associated with a higher risk of radiation-induced AST among women with BC, whereas dietary protein, especially animal protein, was associated with a lower risk. Cautiously balancing carbohydrate and protein intakes could be a part of the clinical management strategy for ≥G2 AST reduction post-radiotherapy among BC women.
