Benefits of the Virtual Methodology Used By Schools During Covid-19 Lockdown From A Parent Perspective

Objective: to investigate from the perspective of parents, the benefits derived from the methodological changes used by schools used to respond to the confinement situation. Theoretical framework: the interruption of school classes during the lockdown caused by COVID-19, led us to improvise a new online methodology considered as “emergency remote teaching” (Hodges et al., 2020). With the intention of ensuring continuity and not interrupting the educational process (Muñoz-Moreno & Lluch-Molins, 2020), learning went from the classroom to the home with the accompaniment of families, to what has recently been called "home base learning" (Zainuddin et al., 2020). Method: Through the survey technique and using an ad hoc questionnaire as an instrument, information was collected from a total of 1390 parents with school-age children. Results: the families valued some benefits obtained from the methodological change that the confinement entailed. Discussion: the study contributes to the knowledge of the benefits that could derive from the changes at a methodological level, raised from the perspective of turning a situation of adversity such as that experienced with the pandemic of 2020, into a learning opportunity for all.
