Photonic Generation of Nyquist Pulse Based on Time-Domain Jointing
A novel method for optically generating Nyquist pulses is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Nyquist pulse, characterized by a distinct single main lobe and multiple sidelobes, can be synthesized by jointing together these independently generated lobe and sidelobes in time domain. Starting with a Gaussian pulse, it is split into multiple paths. One path undergoes appropriate dispersion to broaden the pulse to act as the main lobe, while the remaining paths are subject to simple power attenuation and time delay to serve as the corresponding sidelobes. The lobe and sidelobes are eventually jointed in time domain to generate the desired Nyquist pulse. Compared to the prevalent generation methods based on optical frequency combs (OFCs), this approach is more intuitionistic and effectively avoids the complicated spectral line manipulation, which offers a new idea for Nyquist pulse generation.
