Calculation and Application of Carbon Emission Factors Considering New Energy

The power industry is the largest carbon emission industry in China, and accurate accounting and evaluation of grid carbon emissions are essential for achieving industry-wide carbon reduction. Currently, carbon emission accounting primarily relies on the average emission factor (AEF), which has drawbacks such as a lack of timeliness, and low accuracy. However, with the development of new power systems and the increasing proportion of new energy sources in the power grid, the contribution of new energy to grid carbon emissions cannot be ignored. Therefore, this initially proposes a calculation method that considers new energy for the provincial marginal emission factor (MEF). The MEF takes into account factors such as new energy, time, climate, and policies, and is derived from the energy consumption and generation data of provincial power systems. Subsequently, this calculates the MEF of the Fujian power grid from 2011 to 2021 and analyzes the trend of the MEF and its influencing factors. Finally, using an enterprise as an example, the savings potential for carbon emission is evaluated based on the MEF with and without considering new energy, and the results indicate that the savings potential is 4.52% considering new energy, which is significantly higher than the savings potential (3.55%) when not considering new energy. Therefore, the carbon emission of new energy cannot be ignored.
