Minimum-Use Shared Backup Segment Protection (SBSP) in WDM Optical Networks

We propose a shared backup segment protection (SBSP) scheme to protect WDM optical networks with nontunable transponders. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can significantly improve spare capacity redundancy and maximum number of wavelengths used compared with counterpart protection schemes. Additionally, the restoration times of SBSP and shared backup path protection (SBPP) are analyzed.

Abstract

We propose a shared backup segment protection (SBSP) scheme to protect WDM optical networks with nontunable transponders. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can significantly improve spare capacity redundancy and maximum number of wavelengths used compared with counterpart protection schemes. Additionally, the restoration times of SBSP and shared backup path protection (SBPP) are analyzed.
