Tomographic Retrieval of the Rain Area of Interest of Continuous Rainfall Process Using Microwave Signal Links of LEO Satellite Constellation

Using low Earth orbit satellite microwave communication links and ground receivers for continuous three-dimensional retrieval of the region of interest of the rainfall process is proposed in this paper. The feasibility of the method is investigated and proved through successful retrieval of the part of the two synthetic rainfall processes that are generated by the weather research and forecasting model. Three iterative algorithms are used to continuously estimate the rain fields from the estimated SNR. The simulation results show that the algebraic reconstruction technique, simultaneous algebraic reconstruction technique, and simultaneous iterative reconstruction technique have their respective merits in the retrieval of the three-dimensional rainfall processes.
