One-bit Distributed Radar Target Detection with Range-Doppler Estimation

Distributed radar systems often face significant transmission challenges when handling observational data, especially in smaller platforms. One-bit quantization, which substantially reduces the volume of data, emerges as a promising solution for these systems. However, current studies on one-bit distributed radar detection generally overlook the estimation of range and Doppler, resulting in suboptimal outcomes. This paper addresses the complex task of deriving accurate target information from one-bit quantized data. We initially propose a method that applies one-bit matched filter for estimating signal Delays and employs either FFT fine-search algorithms or multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithms for Doppler estimation. Leveraging these accurate estimations, each receiver utilizes a matched filter detector and conducts Delay and Doppler compensation on the received signals to enhance the detection performance. Our findings reveal a positive correlation between the precision of parameter estimations and the efficacy of detection performance, offering insightful implications for the design and optimization of distributed radar systems.
