Phased Array Fed Reflector with Flexible Beam for High Throughput Satellite Application

The phased array fed reflector antenna has the flexibility of scanning and shaping. Based on the conjugate field matching method, this paper studies the beam scanning performance of the reflector antenna under the condition of axial defocusing. With a 4.5m aperture and a focal to diameter ratio of 0.6, the reflector operating at 32GHz has good scanning performance within <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\pm \boldsymbol{10}^{\circ}$</tex>. The peak gain is 65.6dB and the gain is within 2.7dB. In addition, this paper also investigates the beamforming of the antenna to achieve different beamwidths under the same reflector aperture. The beam widths can change from 0.14 ° to 2.4 °, while the peak gain decreases from 62.5dBi to 40.7dBi.
