Electric Modulation of Extraordinary Optical Transmission Behavior Based on Graphene Metasurface

Metasurface is an ultrathin artificial composite composed of subwavelength unit structures according to a certain design arrangement, which plays a unique role in the field of electromagnetic waves modulation. As the first widely studied flat material, graphene consists of a monolayer of carbon atoms, which can effectively manipulate the operating band and function of the metasurface. Here, the authors propose and demonstrate a tunable electromagnetic extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) graphene metasurface. The metasurface consists of an aperture-double split ring resonator (A-DSRR), a dielectric and a graphene sandwich structure. The results show that EOT behavior can be realized by introducing the double split ring resonator (DSRR) into the aperture structure. In addition, it was found that the transmission amplitude of the graphene metasurface EOT behavior could be manipulated by reducing the sheet resistance of graphene from <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\boldsymbol{3000}\ \boldsymbol{\Omega}/\mathbf{sq}$</tex> to <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\boldsymbol{300}\ \boldsymbol{\Omega}/\mathbf{sq}$</tex>. Abstract

The proposed EOT graphene metasurface design principle is promising for many applications of active electromagnetic control or optical modulation.
