Design of a Novel Low-Power Differential Ring Voltage Controlled Oscillator
This work presents a low-power, low noise, and high output swing four stage ring oscillator (VCO). By reducing the total thermal noise current injected into the output node of the VCO during the transition period of output voltage swing, and improving the performance of phase noise by using a feedforward path and a new auxiliary input to increase the output voltage swing of the oscillator, the corresponding power consumption is reduced. The TSMC 180nm 1P6M process was used for simulation, and the phase noise of the ring oscillator was -93dBc/Hz at a center frequency of 2GHz and an offset carrier frequency of 1MHz. And it only consumes 1.1 mA current, with an oscillator's FoM of 156.7dBc/Hz.
