High-Throughput LDPC Encoder/Decoder for Real-Time Coherent Optical Communications

We demonstrate an LDPC encoder/decoder architecture with a maximum throughput of 2229 Mbps. Implemented on an FPGA, the receiver sensitivity achieves −56 dBm@2Gbps BPSK (decoded BER < 1E-7), with a decoding gain exceeding 8 dB.
