The Research on Energy Mutual Assistance in Multi-Microgrid Systems Based on the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers

Microgrids are one of the effective solutions to promote the local consumption of distributed renewable energy. However, individual microgrids often face limitations in capacity and stability. Interconnecting multiple microgrids to form a microgrid cluster, enabling power and information exchange, can effectively address these shortcomings. To adapt to the trend of high penetration of distributed generation and further enhance system reliability and economic efficiency, the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) is employed as the energy management algorithm for large-scale interconnected systems with coupling relationships. This approach decomposes large-scale problems into multiple smaller subproblems that can be solved independently, thereby addressing the overall optimization problem in a distributed manner, reducing computational complexity, and preserving privacy. The proposed method has been validated through case studies, yielding favorable results and demonstrating the effectiveness and rationality of the approach.
