MATLAB Interface for Simulation and Experimental Design of Ultrasonic Levitation

One of the many applications of ultrasound transducers is acoustic levitation. This technology has a major advantage: it can manipulate objects contactless, thus being used in various fields, such as microelectronics or biotechnologies. This paper proposes an interactive MATLAB interface to simulate the most important acoustic parameters involved in the ultrasonic levitation phenomenon. The user can adjust the transducer spacing and their number to visualize their effects on the acoustic radiation force, the acoustic pressure field, and the Gor’kov potential. The simulation results were used to design and create an experimental physical system. The tests were done for different distances and numbers of transducers. The best solution was obtained for 36 transducers distributed in concentric circles on the surface of two domes, placed parallel at 20 cm from each other. In addition, a study of ultrasound signals and transducers is made.
