Blockchain Architectures for Dynamic Quality Pricing in Commodity Trading: A Comparative Study of DAML/Canton and Hyperledger Fabric
This paper comparatively analyzes DAML/Canton and Hyperledger Fabric blockchain platforms in implementing dynamic quality-based pricing for commodity forward contracts. We developed a mathematical model for quality-based pricing in grain trading and implement it on both platforms. Our analysis covers architectural differences, smart contract development, deployment processes, and performance characteristics, revealing trade-offs in developer experience, transaction transparency, and scalability approaches. The key findings indicate that DAML/Canton offers advantages in expressing complex financial logic and provides fine-grained privacy controls at the contract level, while Hyperledger Fabric provides greater flexibility and potential for higher transaction throughput in certain scenarios, with robust privacy features through its channel-based approach.
