Performance of RIS-Aided Short-Packet NOMA Networks with Hardware Impairments and Imperfect SIC

In this paper, the performance of the reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided short-packet communication network with hardware impairments (HIs) and imperfect successive interference cancellation (iSIC) is analyzed, in which a near-end user with secure transmission requirements is paired with a far-end user with reliable transmission requirements to execute non-orthogonal multiple access. Using the double-Nakagami-m distribution, the channel statistics associated with the RIS are provided. Based on this, the closed-form expressions about the average secure block error rate for the near-end user and the average block error rate for the far-end user are analyzed in the finite blocklength regime. The asymptotic analyses are performed to gain more insights. Monte Carlo simulations are presented to corroborate the correctness of the theoretical analyses. The results suggest that the achievable diversity order depends on the fading parameters as well as the number of reflecting elements at RIS, and is not affected by HI, iSIC, or blocklength.
