An Energy Selective Surface With Ultra- Broadband Absorption

This paper introduces a novel Energy Selective Surface (ESS) designed for electromagnetic protection within its operating band and broadband absorption outside. Full-wave simulation results show that under low-power signal conditions, the ESS produces a passband at 2.8 GHz with an Insertion Loss (IL) of 0.9 dB, and the relative bandwidth of the absorption band reaches 95%. Under high-power signal conditions, the diodes on the ESS are activated, converting the passband into a stopband, with a shielding effectiveness (SE) of up to 17 dB at 2.8 GHz. Within the range of 0.5 GHz to 13.4 GHz, the SE remains above 10 dB. The absorption band remains stable under high-power signals, indicating that the designed absorption band is unaffected by the input power level. The ESS also exhibits oblique incidence stability, enhancing its practical applicability. The research contributes to the advancement of ESS technology for electromagnetic protection and compatibility in diverse environments.
