A Traffic Pattern Identification and Switching Granularity Selection Scheme in Metro/Access All-Optical Switching Networks

Diverse traffic requirements pose challenges to the switching capacity of the metro/access networks. All-optical switching network has been promising for improving network flexibility and reducing resource waste. However, selecting optical circuit switching technology for diverse traffic may result in resource waste, whereas selecting optical timeslot switching may increase the network controlling costs. To solve this problem, we propose a traffic pattern identification and switching granularity selection scheme in network access interface using multiple switching granularities to fit the dynamic traffic pattern. Experiments show that the proposed scheme could decrease the number of wavelengths used by 10% and packet loss by 35%.
