Scholte Wave Excitation Methodin Very-Shallow Sea

An efficient method for very shallow-sea Scholte-wave excitations is proposed for seabed Scholte-wave excitation. By establishing a finite element simulation model, Scholte-wave excitation acoustic fields under different conditions of marine sediment and excitation methods were simulated. The results indicate that the point source directly loaded on the seafloor, as a normal excitation source, has a higher excitation efficiency compared to traditional excitation methods such as radiating acoustic pressure in the water, and can excite Scholte waves in different substrates, with the interface waves occupying the main component in the excitation acoustic field. A Scholte wave excitation transducer, based on the normal-excitation-source concept and designed to transmit vibrations directly on the seafloor, was established along with a corresponding experimental system. Scholte-wave excitation experiments using the normal excitation source were conducted. The experimental results showed that this method can efficiently excite Scholte waves with clear and complete signals, making it a new Scholte-wave excitation method that can be used in actual marine environments such as the inversion of seabed sediment.
