Iterative Design Approach of a Ferrite and Aluminium Caging for a WPT System

This work investigates the change of the key parameters self-inductance, mutual inductance and coupling factor applying a finite element analysis (FEA) with different lateral shielding configurations encircling a WPT system. Specifically, the ferrite and aluminium shielding is iteratively increased laterally until a complete caging around the couplers is created. Furthermore, the magnetic flux density and thus the protection against magnetic radiation for the mentioned configurations is examined in compliance with defined limit values of the ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection) and the IEEE/ICES (International Committee on Electromagnetic Safety). The result of this investigation ultimately provides information about the advantages and disadvantages of a lateral shielding with regard to important WPT key parameters and shielding conditions.
