Novel emission testing device using IoT and cloud application

Emission testing is the process of measuring the pollutants being let out by machines that use combustion as the main deriving source of power. Emission testing has been mandated across the industries setting up norms that must be adhered to. Currently, expensive, bulky, high-precision machines requiring human interaction are being used. This work aims at creating a compact, cost-effective, system that could be widely installed and provide provisions for automation solutions. The sensors such as MQ135, MQ7, and MQ9 have been used for measuring the standard emissions such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons. Based on the current and voltage demand, Arduino Nano has been selected as the microcontroller to control the sensors along with the use of raspberry pi to send the data to the cloud. Pi cam has been used to take the image of the vehicle. The cloud executes the image-to-text conversion algorithm using python scripts and libraries. It also converts the sensor data into standardized values as per the standard norms and the compiling of the report which would be sent to the user as a PDF attachment through email. The developed device is highly compact, relatively inexpensive, and provides good performance considering the price-to-performance ratio and the use of adjustment.
